Volume 22 - No. 89

Dear Readers!

I am delighted to invite you to this issue of "Journal of Ultrasonography" entirely devoted to advances in cancer diagnosis, which I edited for you as a guest editor.

It opens with a paper on artificial intelligence, where authors transparently explain how to understand the decisions of neural networks using relevance maps in the differential diagnosis of focal breast lesions.

Another publication, which is a continuation of the issue of artificial intelligence and discusses quantitative ultrasound methods, presents their usefulness in the monitoring of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer. The topic of breast diagnosis ends with a paper discussing diagnostic difficulties in different types of breast cancer, with particular focus on the varied pattern of ultrasonographic presentations.

Further in the issue, you will also find an interesting paper on the practical aspects of ultrasound-guided biopsy in soft tissue tumors and core-needle biopsy of pancreatic tumors, which are discussed in the context of new therapeutic possibilities.

We also present an extensive literature review on the European and worldwide TIRADS classification systems for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules, summarizing the current state of knowledge.

The paper cites the views of experienced clinicians regarding the size of focal lesions qualified for thyroid FNAB and the role of sonoelastography in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules.

Finally, we present two interesting case reports - breast sarcoidosis as the first manifestation of this disease and recurrent osteosarcoma in a patient with a periendoprosthetic pseudotumor.

On behalf of myself and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Ultrasonography, I wish you an interesting reading and happy Easter

Katarzyna Dobruch-Sobczak, MD-PhD
